Guadalupe Trail Acequia Walk
This is a neighborhood walk on the backside of homes, farms, fields, wineries and ranches for those who would like to see the rural side of North Albuquerque. An acequia is an irriagtion ditch. Albuquerque is one of the last remaining cities in the US that maintains an irrigation system and they are fast going extinct. The irrigation ditches are a part of the valley culture that began with the Pueblo tribes who farmed here 1,500 years ago. Along the ditches you can see frogs, grayfish, ducks, geese, and the occasional fox or migrating Sandhill crane in season.
Easy level trails – no transport required
2-3 hour trek includes drinks
Rio Grande Bosque Walk
The Rio Grande is on the few riparian habitats and the largest remaining cottonwood forest in the southwestern US. This is a nice open space walk on either asphalt or dirt paths shared with bicyclists and equestrians. Birds, lizards, coyotes, and various wildlife can be spotted. There are fire danger seasons when this park is closed to the public.
Easy mostly level trails – short transport (2 miles)
3-4 hour trek includes snack and drinks
Sandia Mountain Trek
The true trek is the hike up to one of various trails on the Sandia Mountain. The trail head we use the most often is at the Elena Gallegos Picnic area – a 640 acre open space of an elevation of about 6,500 feet. From there you will see spectacular views of Albuquerque and west to Mt. Taylor, north to the Jemez Mountains, and the Tijeras Arroyo to the south. From there the Pino or Domingo Baca Trail is our most common Sandia trek. This trek can be customized in several ways – call us to set it up for you.
Moderate trails – short transport to Elena Gallegos trail head (10 miles)
4-6 hour trek includes snack, lunch and drinks
*Wine and dessert options are available for additional charge.
**Parties are limited to 8 people. Please contact us to make a reservation and to customize your day!
